Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), in partnership with St. Mary’s University (SMU), graduated 44 post graduate students in diverse fields of studies on the 12 of January 2019 here in Addis Ababa. As honorary guest at the event, Mr. I.M. Husain, 2nd Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of India to Ethiopia, recounted the centuries-old relationships between Ethiopia and India; long before they established their diplomatic legations in each other’s country in 1948.
The Guest of Honor, on the occasion of the graduation of the 10th cohort of IGNOU-SMU graduates, highlighted the contributions that Indian teachers made to the growth of educated manpower in Ethiopia. He stressed that thousands of them have come to Ethiopia for decades. He added that Ethiopian students too have won Indian scholarship on competitive basis and are pursuing their studies in Indian universities currently. Opening remarks at the ceremony were given by the President of SMU, Wondwosen Tamrat, Associate Professor.
